Bringing Nanoscience to the General Audience

In front of an overflow audience at Berkeley Rep, June 6, a panel of Lab researchers took the stage for a talk called “Big Thinking: The Power of Nanoscience.” The event was part of the Lab’s ongoing series Science at the Theater and featured a discussion on building in the nanoscale universe, creating nanoscale devices, self-assembling materials, and translating fundamental nanoscience research into real-world technology, such as smart windows and artificial photosynthesis. Panelists included Alex Weber-Bargioni, Babak Sanii, Ting Xu, and Delia Milliron. Interim Molecular Foundry Director Jim DeYoreo moderated the event.

Register for the New Frontiers In Nanopatterning Workshop II on July 14th

WorkshopSponsored by The Molecular Foundry and Oxford Instruments, this workshop will include sessions on Energy Conservation at the Nanoscale, New Developments in Nanoscale Deposition, Next-Generation Chemical Mapping at the Nanoscale, and Radio Frequency Heating in Nanoscale Plasma Processes. There will also be optional tours of both the Molecular Foundry and/or the Foundry's nanofabrication cleanroom on the afternoon of July 13th and on July 15th. Get the details and register.

Isaac Tamblyn Selected for 2011 WMS Student Congress

Foundry Postdoc Isaac Tamblyn has been chosen to participate in the 2011 World Materials Summit Inaugural Student Congress. Isaac was chosen via competitive application process and is one of only 50 participants from around the world. The Student congress is a program for active graduate students and postdoctoral scholars in fields directly related to energy and environmental science, engineering and/or policy. Congratulations, Issac!

President of Costa Rica Visits Foundry

PresidentOn May 17th, President of Costa Rica Laura Chinchilla Miranda (right) visited Berkeley Lab along with her ministers of Science and Technology and Foreign Trade. Eager to learn about that Lab’s expertise in energy and biotechnology, they were briefed by multiple Lab departments, including Energy and Environmental Sciences, Mina Bissell, Robert Kostecki, JGI and JBEI. They then visited WANDA at the Molecular Foundry, led by Delia Milliron (left), one of its developers.
