Abstract:
In search of insight into the mechanisms of biomineralization, and the synthetic creation of new nanocomposite materials, great efforts have been put into the mineralization of model organic interfaces. I will describe how the sophistication of this field has evolved over the past decades. Synchrotron x-ray scattering and in-situ scanning probes have both created huge advances in knowledge. The remaining challenges lie in making experimental systems as relevant as possible, while keeping the samples amenable to these high resolution techniques. A wish list for future work will comprise a greater portion of this talk than is usual!
