AAPPTec Apex 396 Peptide Synthesizer

The Aapptec is a robotic multiple peptide synthesizer, capable of synthesizing up to 40 peptides and or peptoids in parallel via solid-phase synthesis.

Jobin Yvon Fluoromax Fluorometer

The fluorometer is a quality spectrophotometer used to characterize the fluorescent properties of compounds/proteins/nanoparticles synthesized.

Varian Analytical HPLC

The suite of Varian HPLCs is used to analyze and purify small molecules, peptides, peptoids and proteins produced at the Foundry.

Varian Prep HPLC

The suite of Varian HPLCs is used to analyze and purify small molecules, peptides, peptoids and proteins produced at the Foundry.

Agilent 1100 Series (Ion Trap) LC-MS Mass Spectrometer

The Agilent 1100 is an HPLC (high-performance liquid chromatography) connected to an ion-trap electrospray mass spectrometer. It is used to analyze synthetic compounds, peptides and peptoids.

Custom Built Robotic Combinatorial Synthesizer (RONDA)

The robotic combinatorial synthesizer is a unique custom-built instrument capable of the synthesis of up to 24 peptides and or peptoids in parallel, on a scale of 10 mg up to 2 grams of resin per reaction vessel. It can also prepare one-bead-one-compound combinatorial libraries of oligomers from up to 64 distinct chemical building blocks.

Varian Semi-Prep HPLC

The suite of Varian HPLCs is used to analyze and purify small molecules, peptides, peptoids and proteins produced at the Foundry.

Total Internal Reflection Microscopy System with Olympus IX-81W/Andor EMCCD Camera

This fluorescence microscope is equipped with visible and UV light sources, as well as lasers that can be used in total internal reflectance mode (TIRF). Also equipped with an incubator to allow imaging of live cells, and a sensitive EMCCD camera to allow for single molecule imaging.

Zeiss 710 Laser Scanning Confocal Microscope with Upconversion Capabilities

Multi-laser scanning confocal system with an additional NIR laser for upconversion. Equipped with 34 PMTs for spectral imaging and a fully controlled cell chamber for extended live-cell studies.

Protein Technologies Prelude Peptide Synthesizer

The Prelude is an automated synthesizer that can synthesize 6 peptides or peptoids in parallel, on a scale of 10 mg up to 2 grams of resin. Its flexible design enables a variety of solid-phase synthesis chemistries and the inclusion of non-standard building blocks.

Support Facilities

Organic and biopolymer synthesis

The Facility is equipped with a variety of resources used in synthesis of organic compounds, functionalized nanocrystals and bioinspired polymers. They include:  7 chemical fume hoods, two rotary evaporators, a Biotage V10 evaporator, a CEM microwave synthesizer, top-loading and analytical balances in a vented balance safety enclosure, and two lyophilizers. 

Analysis and characterization

The Facility is equipped with a variety of tools used for biomolecular characterization. They include: a Waters UPLC, mass-selective purification system, and an ion-mobility mass spectrometer, a Jasco circular dichroism spectrapolarimeter, a differential scanning calorimeter (DSC), isothermal titration calorimeter (ITC), UV-vis spectrophotometer, optical microscopes and two multi-well plate readers.

Biomolecule manipulation

The Facility is equipped with a variety of tools to aid in work with biomolecules, microbes, molecular biology techniques and cell culture. These tools include: a BioFlo fermentor (14 L), an anaerobic chamber, a Beckman ultracentrifuge and other regular centrifuges, 4 biosafety cabinets, a B&D flow cytometer, an Akta FPLC, a Biomek assay robot, microbial and tissue culture incubators, refrigerators and freezers, and gel electrophoresis equipment.
