AB SCIEX TF4800 MALDI TOF-TOF Mass Spectrometer
This instrument is the tandem time-of-flight mass spectrometer systems, providing the excellent level of molecular mass coverage in the range of molecular masses 500 and 150,000 Da, high throughput, and confidence in both qualitative and quantitative analyses. The analyzer combines all of the advantages of MALDI in a flexible, easy-to-use, ultra-high-performance mass spectrometer with all the advanced capabilities of software. On-axis laser provides high sensitivity to identify and quantitate low-abundance compounds in complex samples. High-resolution precursor ion selection lets detect and identify compounds that other systems miss and makes it easier for you to interpret the data by simplifying MS/MS spectra. Simple experiment setup and fast mass analysis maximizes laboratory productivity. This equipment is available for use for all staff members and Users with proper training (80 Users trained).
Bruker Avance II 500 MHZ NMR Spectrometer
The Bruker Avance II 500 MHz Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectrometer is running continuously since September 2006. This instrument allows for the chemical structure elucidation of molecules due to the chemical shift. It is a powerful technique that can provide detailed information on the topology, dynamics and three-dimensional structure of molecules in solution and the solid state allowing structural and dynamic information to be obtained. It is capable of running routine proton, carbon, boron, phosphorus, fluorine, and silicon NMR spectroscopic analysis. It has full capacity to acquire 1D and 2D multi-nuclear NMR spectra with high precision at in a temperature range from 150 °C down to –150 °C for the study of dynamic molecular behavior. A solid state probe was purchased and installed in 2008. The NMR spectrometer has been an indispensable tool in assisting countless research projects. It has been a core instrument for many researchers at the Molecular Foundry, and Users from various companies, universities, and other research institutions. This equipment is available for hands-on use with an established online reservation system, after proper training (82 Users trained).
Lakeshore CPX-HF Superconducting Magnet-Based Horizontal Field Cryogenic Probe Station
This instrument is a versatile cryogenic micro-manipulated probe station used for non-destructive magnetic testing of devices on full and partial wafers up to 25 mm (1 in) in diameter. Mounted on a non-magnetic table, the CPX-HF is equipped with a 10 kOe (1 T) horizontal split-pair superconducting magnet and can operate over a temperature range of 4.2 K to 400 K. This equipment is available for use for all staff members and Users with proper training (21 Users trained).

Bruker MICROTOF-Q Mass Spectrometer
The microTOF-Q mass spectrometer (MS) features the very latest technology developments to provide maximum certainty in research concerning small molecule identification, and determination of molecular mass and sequence of peptides and proteins. Easy formula determination of small molecules, analysis of complex mixtures, and post-chromatographic detection are key applications. The microTOF-Q has an excellent mass accuracy, high resolving power, and flexible data dependant MS/MS strategies. Confident results enable accurate mass and structural analysis of molecules. The instrument affords a mass accuracy of 1-2 ppm, high resolution >17.500 FWHM and true isotopic pattern. This pattern is applied to precursor and fragment ions, which is an important feature in formula generation by MS. The mass spectrometer is used with two ion sources: (i) nano electrospray ionization (Bruker) and (ii) desorption electrospray ionization (Prosolia). MS measurement is instrumental for many Users at the Molecular Foundry who use it for detection of compounds separated by nanoflow liquid chromatography (28 Users trained).
NanoLog spectrofluorometer is designed for research in nanotechnology and the frontiers of nanomaterials. The NanoLog is capable of detecting fluorescence/ phosphorescence in the visible and near-IR regions from 300 nm to 1700 nm. It can also measure the luminescence lifetimes (nanoseconds to seconds) of samples in both solution and solid state. 450 W intense broadband cw xenon lamp is for bright excitation from UV to near-IR. Fixed-wavelength "Plug and Play" interchangeable NanoLED pulsed laser-diodes and LEDs for Time Correlated Single Photon Counting lifetimes measurement. Wavelengths of 280, 340, 375, 405, 440, 473, 635, 650, 785 and 830 nm are available for laser-diodes, 370,455, 465, 485, 560, 590, 605, 625 for LEDs. Standard optical pulse durations are <200 ps (<100ps typical) for laser-diodes, <1.5 ns for LEDs. This equipment is available for use for all staff members and Users with proper training (36 Users trained).
Solvent Purification System
This instrument incorporates a high vacuum pump under a nitrogen atmosphere to provide solvents with very low levels of water and dissolved oxygen. Under inert conditions, solvents are delivered from a slightly pressurized metal canister through a bed of drying agent contained in a stainless steel column into a dry glass collection flask. Our system offers a safer alternative to typical stills by minimizing the potential for fire as well as for vapor exposure and is currently set up to provide tetrahydrofuran, methylene chloride, toluene, pyridine, dimethylformamide, and triethylamine.
MBRAUN Thermal Evaporator
The MBRAUN thermal evaporator is used to deposit thin layers of organic and metallic materials onto substrates under vacuum conditions of up to 10-6 mbar. The system is integrated with a nitrogen glove box workstation, and can hold up to 4 different source materials for multilayer deposition. The system offers rate and thickness control and an optional quartz lamp heater for substrate treatment.
VEECO DEKTAK 150 Profilometer
The Dektak 150 surface profiler is an advanced thin and thick film step height measurement tool used to profile surface topography and waviness, as well as measure surface roughness in the nanometer range. The compact system accommodates samples up to six inches in dimension and four inches thick, and is capable of measuring steps below 10 nm with a step-height repeatability of 0.6 nm. A 3D mapping option provides automation and programmability of up to 200 sites on samples of up to six inches in diameter.
