2009 Nanofest Featured in San Francisco Magazine

nanofestAs part of the Molecular Foundry’s Annual Users’ Meeting, the Foundry hosts a nanoscience film festival, designed to bring science to scientific and non-scientific communities through short films. San Francisco Magazine featured the festival. Enjoy the write-up.

2010 Distinguished Lectures Begin

lecturesBeginning in January, The Molecular Foundry's regular Tuesday seminar series expands to include the Distinguished Lectures Series. From January through May, the Foundry will host six in-depth talks on the latest research by eminent scientists such as Frances Ross of IBM's Watson Research Center and Professor Sir J. Fraser Stoddart of Northwestern University. See the schedule of Seminars and Distiguished Lectures.

Theory Facility Welcomes...

Several new post-docs have joined the Theory Facility:

  • Lester Hedges works with Steve Whitelam on self-assembly pathways of carbonates for Berkeley Lab's Energy Frontier Research Center on CO2 sequestration.

  • Rob Berger works with Jeff Neaton in collaboration with Cornell University's Energy Frontier Research Center, studying the effect of biaxial strain on the electronic structure of strontium titanate, one of a handful of materials that can use solar energy to split water in hydrogen and oxygen.

  • Isaac Tamblyn, a fellow with the National Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, works with Jeff Neaton on studying energy conversion processes in hybrid inorganic-organic nanostructures.

  • Sahar Sharifzadeh works with Jeff Neaton on understanding optical and electronic properties of organic molecules and solids, in collaboration with the Weizmann Institute in Israel.

Biological Facility Adds Two

The Biological Nanostructures Facility welcomes post-docs Chun-Long Chen and Romas Kudirka. Chun-Long will work with Ron Zuckermann and Jim DeYoreo on capture of carbon dioxide catalyzed by peptoids through Berkeley Lab’s Energy Frontier Research Center on CO2 sequestration, while Romas will work with Zuckermann on peptoid nanostructures.
