Following morning remarks by Foundry Director, Jeff Neaton, members of Berkeley Lab and Facilities leadership, and Foundry Facilities and EHS Manager Michael Wisherop, the Foundry’s staff and users participated in open house activities led by Berkeley Lab’s EHS and facilities staff to learn about safety measures in other facilities at the Foundry and Berkeley Lab.
The open house sessions, which included visits to the Berkeley Lab waste handling facility, lessons on bicycle, cryo-handling, and peroxide testing, and ‘behind the scenes’ spaces like the roof and water purification system, created opportunities for users and staff to share EH&S practices and ideas.
After lunch, each facility met to discuss the morning sessions as well as talk through the retreat’s themes: daily ISM practices and handling work changes that may add new or increase existing hazards.
