New high-throughput computational advances are predicting exciting new materials with potential for exotic function – this work realized the first thin films of one candidate material: BiInO3
Research Details
- More than 225 candidate polar/ ferroelectric materials predicted, 126 never reported as ferroelectric
- BiAlO3 -> Researchers were not able to produce this predicted material, this information helped refine predictions of material stability
- BiInO3 -> Epitaxial films were produced for the first time, competition between different structures probed, and properties were measured: bandgap = 4.5 eV, dielectric constant ≈ 45-50 (at 300 K)
