Scientific Achievement
Realized topological Skyrmions in van der Waals (vdW) ferromagnetic materials.
Significance and Impact
Opens a new avenue to vdW magnet-based topological spintronics such as the zero-field skyrmion motion in vdW ferromagnets.
Research Details
- Magnetic Skyrmions usually exist in materials with inversion symmetry-breaking, which a-priori excludes vdW magnetic materials (e.g., Fe3GeTe2) as hosts for magnetic Skyrmion.
- Realized Skyrmions in vdW Fe3GeTe2 within zero magnetic field by coupling Fe3GeTe2 with out-of-plane magnetized (Co/Pd) multilayers,
- Identified the Neel-type topological structure of these Skyrmions.
