At the staff retreat in early May 2021, Foundry staff took some time to discuss Work-Life Balance (WLB). Recognizing that WLB can have different meanings for everyone, Foundry staff participated in an activity to generate buzzwords that our staff associate with Work-Life Balance. Here is the result:
We chose to focus the discussion using this activity because WLB often means something different to everyone. As each of us strives for balance in our own lives, it is important for our staff to have a shared language with which to set expectations and offer support. The outcome of this exercise, and others from the retreat, will be used to form the basis of a Community Agreement that is currently under development.
At the Molecular Foundry, we have seen first-hand the advantage of working together across disciplines, and we have also experienced the great benefit of a culture that welcomes and encourages all types of diversity. We seek to foster innovative actions that create an inclusive work environment that values the contributions of all employees and users. Inclusiveness is fundamental to the feelings of safety, confidence, and wellbeing that are necessary to thrive both personally and professionally, and our community plays an important role in caring for our community.
