Peptoid-Based Novel Materials
This capability supports users in developing sequence-defined, protein-like polymers with a focus on peptoid materials that combine the programmability of structural biology with the robustness and nanoscale order of synthetic polymer science. We offer expertise in end-to-end peptoid design, solid-phase synthesis, purification, and characterization, including advanced combinatorial synthesis methods and peptoid MS sequencing, using automated synthesizers, UPLC and ion-mobility mass spectrometry, and a range of evaporation and lyophilization equipment. A particular strength is the fabrication and characterization of 2D self-assembling peptoid nanosheets, which we image and measure using fluorescence microscopy, AFM, SEM, and aberration-corrected transmission electron microscopy down to atomic resolution. Additional instrumentation, including surface plasmon resonance, circular dichroism, differential scanning and isothermal titration calorimetry, and a microarray spotting robot, allows users to screen and characterize peptoid function and binding. Collaborations in this capability have applied peptoid materials to microelectronics fabrication and EUV photoresists, critical materials separations, biotherapeutics and delivery agents, diagnostics, and interfacial coatings.
