Talk Title: Toward the Systematic Generation of Hypothetical Atomic Structures: Neural Networks and Geometric Motifs
Location: Chemla Room (67-3111)
Biography:
Dr. Tess Smidt completed her PhD in computational materials physics at UC Berkeley, where she designed quantum materials and nano systems at the atomic scale. She is a 2018 Luis W. Alvarez Fellow in Computing Sciences at Berkeley Lab. Her current work focuses on the design of a neural network that can automatically generate novel atomic crystal structures, which could then be characterized with existing computational physics and chemistry tools.
