The Falling Walls Conference, part of Berlin Science Week, is a World Science Summit – with one question at its core: Which are the next walls to fall in science and society? Over the past several months, over 900 nominees from 111 countries were nominated to become the Science Breakthrough of the Year in their respective categories.
At the start of the conference on November 1, 2020, the jury announced that the Molecular Foundry, represented by Director Kristin Persson, was one of the top 10 winners in the Science and Innovation Management category!
The Molecular Foundry was created to ensure that good scientific ideas have an opportunity to be explored. Research is a difficult journey, often requiring advanced equipment and broad expertise that isn’t always readily available. Too often, good ideas are under resourced and abandoned.
By allowing any researcher with a good idea to come and use the Molecular Foundry for free, we are working to make sure that good ideas, no matter where they come from, have an equal chance of success.
The Foundry will join the other winners on November 5, 2020 during the virtual conference, and Kristin Persson will participate in a live Q&A after the winner’s session. Feel free to tune in at 5:15 am PT for the winner’s session and 6:15am for the Q&A!
Former Foundry Director Carolyn Bertozzi and the Stanford Chem-H Institute were also named a winner in the same category.
