User Program Director
Alison Hatt is the Director of the User Program at the Molecular Foundry. In this role, she is responsible for the User Program’s leadership, management and growth. Dr. Hatt is a member of the Foundry’s senior management team and acts on behalf of the Division Director as the chief spokesperson for the Foundry’s User Program. She oversees the Foundry’s scientific proposal process, including administration associated with User proposal submissions, peer reviews, and scheduling approved projects; works with scientific staff to reach out to and grow new diverse, engaged and productive User communities; liaises with User Executive Committee; and supervises the User Office staff.
Dr. Hatt first joined the Molecular Foundry in 2010 as a postdoctoral fellow in the Theory of Nanostructured Materials Facility. She also has a background in science writing and communication, and previously served as Public Affairs Specialist for the Materials Sciences Division, where she facilitated communication between MSD scientists, DOE, and the general public, as well as contributed to strategic oversight of the Division. Dr. Hatt received a Ph.D. in Materials from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a B.S. in Physics from the University of Utah.
