Foundry from Home is a podcast to highlight new developments in remote, virtual, and physically distanced user access to the Molecular Foundry. Join Foundry User Program Director, Shannon Ciston, as she speaks with staff about new developments that will enable user access to the Foundry during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Episode 1: NCEM
In this episode we’re featuring remote access developments at the National Center for Electron Microscopy, one of the characterization facilities at the Molecular Foundry. NCEM is home to cutting edge instrumentation, techniques and expertise required for exceptionally high resolution imaging, and analytical characterization of a broad array of materials.
Episode 2: Biological Facility
In this episode, we feature remote access developments at the Biological Nanostructures Facility, one of the Foundry’s synthesis facilities that studies the synthesis, analysis and mimicry of biological nanostructures.
Episode 3: Organic Facility
This episode features remote access developments at the Organic and Macromolecular Synthesis Facility at the Molecular Foundry. The Organic facility is devoted to the chemical synthesis and application of porous soft, hard and hybrid materials as bulk solids, thin films, or in confined geometries. Typical applications for new materials synthesized in the Organic facility are gas and liquid phase separations, membranes, electrochemical energy storage, catalysis, and more.
Episode 4: Nanofabrication Facility
In this episode, we are featuring remote access developments at the Nanofabrication Facility, where work in the clean room is taking on the challenge of distanced training with guided-tour audio systems and holographic augmented reality.
Episode 5: Inorganic Facility
In this episode, we are featuring virtual training at the Inorganic Nanostructures facility. Our guests, Tracy Mattox and Anne Pham, share how the facility is enabling user science with new tools and techniques.
Episode 6: Theory Facility
In this episode, we are highlighting the Theory of Nanostructured Materials facility. Our guest, Liang Tan, shares how the facility is finding new ways to collaborate and host fruitful discussions as well as develop coordinated workflows and data management across user groups.
Episode 7: Imaging Facility
In this episode, we are featuring the Imaging and Manipulation of Nanostructures facility of the Molecular Foundry. The Imaging Facility applies and develops techniques to characterize and manipulate a broad variety of nanostructures, from hard to very soft matter, including liquid structures.
