Talk Title: Tuning Energy Levels, Energy Flow and Disorder in Nanomaterials Through the External Environment
Location: Chemla Room (67-3111)
Biography:
Dr. Archana Raja is a staff scientist in the Imaging and Manipulation of Nanostructures facility at the Molecular Foundry. Previously, she was a Heising-Simons Postdoctoral Fellow in the UC Berkeley College of Chemistry, appointed from Fall 2017 to Fall 2019. She studies optical and electronic properties of hybrid nanomaterial assemblies and their interfaces. Unlike their bulk counterparts, materials confined to nanoscale dimensions are very sensitive to their local environment and this can in turn be used to manipulate their properties. In case of solution-processed nanocrystals, tuning the environment offers superior control of structure, dimensionality and optoelectronic properties during the growth and even afterwards using post-synthetic treatments. This is particularly appealing for bottom-up design of nanoscale devices with ultrasharp variations in their electronic properties.
